This DLL maps into almost every 32-bit exe that’s launched after making the registry entry. ![]() On some OSs the LoadAppInit_DLLs might not be present or needed. To enable this file on 64-bit OS, one must make its entry in the following registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SYSWOW64\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\AppInit_DLLs also the key LoadAppInit_DLLs should be set to 1. This is not a COM DLL so it does not require COM registration. It’s usually present in the system32 folder on 32-bit OS and syswow64 on 64-bit machines. You may have already seen this, but here's how the file works: ![]() I could submit a ticket to Symantec, but application metering works with a whole raft of applications, so I don't know what they could about it really. However, would there be any real issues with doing this for the time being? But I think you will agree that's a pretty dirty little hack. We could disable the Symantec Management Agent and Clients before the install, but I'm pretty sure that requires a restart and could make things rather difficult for us.Īnother option would be to write a script that renames the DLL, installs the application and then reverts the name change so everything is fine. Has anyone ever had a problem like this? We are looking for the best way to resolve this. I renamed it back after the install, and we had no problems. With this done, the installation completed perfectly. To see if this was affecting the install, I just hopped into that directory and renamed the DLL (so it wouldn't be called). Using process explorer, we found the TSMSIhlp.exe process (part of the SnagIt install) was hooking in with the AMInit32 DLL (C:\Windows\System32\AMInit32.dll). Whenever we try to install SnagIt 9.1.3 on our machines, the install hangs at the end.
